Board acknowledges resignation, postpones officer elections pending replacement

Vice President Dennis Purtell called the meeting to order May 18 and formally recognized the resignation of board member Gary Beck Sr., effective May 13, 2026. Doug Schwartz moved, and Ashley Bzdawka seconded, to postpone election of officers and committee assignments until a new board member is appointed; the motion carried with all ayes. The board also voted to appoint Dennis Purtell as the district delegate to the CESA 2 annual convention in June and to the 2027 WASB State Education Convention, and appointed Doug Schwartz as the alternate delegate.
The postponement moves the statutory window for electing officers into a period after the board has decided whether to fill the open seat by appointment or by new posting. The board will take up the appointment process in executive session and expects to act before its next regular meeting on June 15, 2026.
