Board creates committee to review public access to district fitness center

The South Milwaukee School District Board voted to form a committee to review public access and safety considerations for the district fitness center.
"Moved by Genduso and seconded by Elliott to create a committee as presented to review the Fitness Center Access and Safety Considerations," the minutes state. The motion passed by roll call vote, 5-0.
Superintendent Deidre Roemer presented the proposal and next steps for public access; the board discussed safety, hours and oversight during the discussion. Separately, board member Ellis moved to maintain the current school-year fitness center hours, but the motion "did not receive a second," so no vote was held on that proposal. The committee is expected to study access, safety protocols and any staffing or liability implications and report back to the board.
The committee creation is procedural direction only; the board did not adopt new hours or a membership roster during the meeting. Any formal changes to access or hours will return to the board for approval.
