Whitehall staff report rising enrollment, expand student supports and thank community donors

District staff reported elementary enrollment increased to about 2,011, described near-complete assessments and expanded student supports, and acknowledged several local donors and foundation grants that will fund student needs, music sound equipment and a new field painter.
District staff opened the meeting with an elementary-school update noting enrollment growth and several operational items. “We are up from our last meeting — we’re at 2011 right now,” the staff member said, reporting higher elementary enrollment and active work with OPI on updated assessment data presentation that staff expect will help teachers. The presenter said MAST assessments are nearly finished and that the district is working with OPI to resolve missing test-data files.
The board recognized multiple community donations that district leaders said will support students and facilities. Whitehall Country Store gave $5,000 to the district’s Angel Fund to help cover lunches and activity fees; two $5,000 gifts (from the tax increment/finance fund and Golden Sunlight) will fund landscaping and play-area improvements for the district daycare building; Ron Raginsky donated $1,000 to the Angel Fund; and Kevin Brunette donated $5,000 to buy coats and winter gear for students. Staff also reported two Jefferson Valley Community Foundation grants — one for sound equipment for music concerts (written by Erica Ransburg) and another to replace a failed field-painting machine (written by Curtis) — and said the grants will improve extracurricular experiences and athletic maintenance.
