The Whitehall School District board approved an annual notice — a resolution of intent to impose an increase in levies — that preserves the district's ability to adjust tax levies when final funding numbers are available later this year.
Hannah (identified in the transcript as a district staff member) told the board the resolution does not mean the district plans to increase spending now. "At this point we don't anticipate any increases because we don't know what our final funding numbers would be," she said, adding the resolution allows the district in August, once final figures are known, to adjust permissive levies if necessary.
Board members asked clarifying questions about purpose and timing; staff reiterated that the resolution is a public notice step to preserve flexibility. The staff noted uncertainty about federal discretionary funding streams and possible impacts on grants administered through the U.S. Department of Education.
A motion to approve advertising the resolution of intent was moved, seconded and approved by voice vote. The resolution gives the administration the procedural option to set levies later in the calendar year once actual funding totals are known; it does not by itself change tax rates or spending.
