Henry County discusses bidding plan for courthouse elevator replacement; county staff to prepare RFQ

Commissioners discussed replacing the courthouse elevator and instructed staff to prepare public solicitation documents after a follow-up with a vendor indicated the work would likely be a turnkey job. Jim Stone, presiding commissioner, said the county had received information showing long lead times for parts and that the project could push into 2027; commissioners agreed the scope meant the county must formally bid the work rather than treat it as a small repair.

Commissioner Jake Bradley reported that Schindler had described the job as a turnkey project "that they did the entire thing from start to finish," and members discussed whether to request bids from specialized elevator firms or instead hire a general contractor to manage subs. Commissioners flagged a likely prevailing-wage threshold in the neighborhood of $50,000, emphasized the need for on-site pre-bid visits, and asked staff to prepare simplified bid specifications and to target publishing solicitation materials before September so contractors can plan around court calendars and jury trials.
