Commissioners approve CDL training contract; members seek repayment safeguards

Commissioners noted the program is discretionary and budget-dependent but said the county has in the past covered training costs for employees in publicly funded roles. One commissioner asked whether the county could recover training costs if an employee leaves; the court discussed routing contract language through the district attorney's office or creating an in-county CDL program to reduce turnover risk.

Supporters said the program provides practical workforce development and praised participants who completed training; opponents or cautious members asked for explicit contractual protections to avoid uncompensated taxpayer expense. The court approved the contract while directing staff to refine contract terms and consider DA review.
