Commission questions process after Angie's redevelopment seeks multimodal grant without county land-development review

Staff presented a general-consistency review for the redevelopment of the former Angie's restaurant site, noting the owner opened and began operations without a county land-development submission. The applicant now seeks state multimodal transportation funds for deceleration and entrance work; the DCD multimodal request totals roughly $888,000 with a local match described at about $266,000.

Jason Finery told the commission he prepared a draft letter that would not support the grant application because the project bypassed the county review process: "this is the first time that I've been at a loss for preparing a letter... my letter... is not supporting this grant application." Commissioners said the town-level waiver used in this instance should not substitute for county-level plan review—especially for projects that seek significant state transportation funding—and suggested copying the township on process concerns and reaffirming county expectations for submission and review before grants are sought.
