During its Jan. 8 meeting the Policy Committee reviewed a new 4K–8 promotion and retention policy (345.41, 345.4 and 345.4-Rule). Dr. Shawn Galvin and Dr. Karen Strandt told the committee the draft aligns with the state's ACT 20 requirements and uses framework provided by the Wisconsin Association of School Boards (WASB).
Dr. Galvin and Dr. Strandt said, "It is ensuring we are supporting students and providing them with the necessary support to be successful." The minutes note the WASB provided the policy and rule framework for these items and that the rule specifies the staff actions required to implement the policy.
The committee discussed the opportunity ACT 20 requirements presented to review grade-level retention and promotion practices. The minutes do not record a vote to adopt the policy at this meeting.
