Supervisor asks for IT upgrades, ClearAudit capability and small legal fund

Tammy, Levy County's Supervisor of Elections, presented a multi-part budget request focused on cybersecurity, document management and legal support.

She asked for $30,000 to replace aging servers and backup systems that support the county’s voter-registration system; described a $15,008.50 one-time installation and about $4,097.50 annually for a voter-registration document-management system; and requested $10,000 to retain legal counsel for public-records and canvassing‑board questions. "Voter registration forms cannot be ever gotten rid of unless you digitize them," Tammy said, explaining the document-management need and ongoing work to name and index tens of thousands of records.

Tammy also detailed ClearAudit, a 100% audit product that compares every vote under a separate auditing process; she said a state line item of $4.5 million is aimed at counties without ClearAudit, but Levy County's existing system may not qualify for this year’s funding and that the county may need to budget the upgrade next year if grant funds are not available. She told commissioners she could manage this year if necessary by renting equipment but urged the board to consider funding to avoid deferred costs and training burdens later.
