Library IT transition stalls as Solano equipment invoice and Userful support issues surface

Library staff told the board that the library’s new scenic Wi‑Fi is operating but the local area network remains connected to Solano County because Solano provided key router equipment that the city must decide whether to purchase.

“The system is actually up and running. It’s just that we haven't turned off Solano yet,” the city librarian said, explaining that Solano sent an invoice for equipment that the city's IT director must decide whether to fund. Amber Kelly added that AT&T had to install wiring and routers for the new connection and that some procurement and coordination steps remain.

Staff also said they are evaluating replacements for the Userful public‑computer platform after the vendor stopped regular updates and offered a perpetual license. Trustees raised space and fire‑code constraints, noting that removing some public PCs could free floor space and raise permitted attendance limits for large events such as a planned Lucha Libre program. Staff said they will report back on vendor options, recommended PC counts, and the budget implications of buying Solano’s equipment.
