Elma board reviews four goal areas and sets fall timeline for strategic plan

District staff presented an initial framework for the Elma School District strategic plan, laying out four goal areas and a timetable for refinement. A staff member (S4) said instructional leaders identified measurable targets yesterday and will refine goals at a Sept. 10 meeting, solicit community input on Sept. 24 and use Oct. 9 in-service time to plan implementation. "The 1st goal area is increase the percentage of students who attend school regularly and are present on time and ready to learn," S4 said, adding an attendance target example of 92 percent and credit-attainment goals for freshmen.

Board members asked whether to set high-level board goals immediately or wait for the staff-refined measures from October; S4 advised the board’s work can either be a 50,000-foot-level statement now or be aligned to the operationalized measures developed next month. Chair (S1) said the board would consider members’ preferences by email and that October–November sessions will focus on how to achieve the targets. The board took no formal action on metrics at this meeting; staff will return with refined targets and community engagement results.
