Selectboard member proposes solar-powered flashing stop signs at accident-prone corners

Selectboard member Joel Bouvier presented photographs and proposed researching solar-powered illuminated stop signs for locations with a history of serious accidents.

Bouvier singled out the Burpee Road/Monkton Road intersection—locally called "Boss Corner"—and the Plank Road/Burpee intersection near the cemetery, noting prior fatal accidents and near-misses at those locations. "He proposed similar signage for the Burpee Road intersection ('Boss Corner,' at the intersection of Burpee and Monkton Roads) and referenced accident history at that corner," the minutes record. Bouvier committed to researching accident counts with state police and pursuing grant funding to pay for the equipment. Peeker Heffernan described crash patterns involving drivers stopping and pulling out in front of oncoming vehicles and noted sight-distance issues from the south.

The Board did not take formal action but encouraged Bouvier to return with research and grant options; Green Mountain Power interest in pole relocation at the intersection was noted as a related logistical factor.
