Fire chief seeks hydrant flow records, unveils Red Cross smoke‑detector program

Fire Chief Chase Bennett said he contacted PA American Water to request the locations of hydrants within Jefferson Hills and the results of annual flow testing; he told council he has not yet received the full records and will forward them when available. Bennett noted the hydrants are flow tested and inspected annually by PA American Water and that the borough pays a fee associated with that service.

Bennett also announced a new partnership with the Red Cross to install smoke detectors in residents' homes free of charge and to provide brief fire‑safety plans. "We'll come out, install smoke detectors, give her a brief fire safety plan, and that'll be free of charge for the residents," he said, and stated the program should be operational within about 30 days. Council members asked whether hydrant flow testing could be done in‑house; Bennett said borough testing is feasible but would require equipment and would shift liability back to the borough and fire department.
