Board approves updated employee handbook; handbook adds volunteer incentives and raises enrichment pay

Administration presented a line-by-line update to the employee handbook and explained changes intended to simplify language and align practice across support, exempt and teacher sections. Presenter Ron walked trustees through key revisions including the removal of longstanding grandfathered dental language, clarified medical exam procedures and the consolidation of prep-time language to guarantee 220 minutes of weekly prep across levels.

On compensation and event pay, Ron said the handbook adds incentive language for volunteers: "If you don't take the pay and you volunteer and work 3 of those events, you can convert 1 more of your sick days into a personal day." He also noted the district increased enrichment summer pay prospectively "from 23 to 25" per hour to remain competitive. After questions about pension benefits, coach/advisor stipends and administrative position coding, the board voted to approve the handbook as presented.

Board members thanked staff and the employee relations committee for their work on the updates; trustees said several changes reflected ongoing practice and clarified expectations for administrators, support staff and teachers. The vote carried on a voice vote following a motion by a board member and a second.
