Sunset Valley council approves temporary permit for Daisy Dash set for Oct. 20

The Sunset Valley City Council voted to approve a temporary special use permit and an amended course for the annual Daisy Dash run, scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 20, 2024.

City staff described a revised route that keeps runners off narrow trail sections and away from the Highway 290 frontage/Bridal Lane. “It’s going to be Sunday, October 20. At to begin at 08:00AM,” staff said during the presentation, and staff added police had reviewed the route and coordinated with the Village Shopping Center property manager.

Council members pressed staff on logistics including parking near the Burger Center, traffic control for brief street closures, and the handling of deliveries during the event. Staff said past participation on the trail has ranged “roughly 120 to 180” participants and that they would place barrels and have a squad car at a short sidewalk segment where runners will use the sidewalk.

Councilman Johnson moved to approve the permit with the amended trail route; the motion passed with support from council. The council directed staff and public safety to implement the agreed safety markers and traffic control measures for the event.
