Merrill Chamber outlines 'Sip and Stroll' plan; committee OKs temporary wine license

Sarah Brooks, director of the Merrill Chamber, presented the Chamber's plan for a 'Sip and Stroll' event on Oct. 17, 2026 from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., asking the committee to approve a temporary Class B wine license for multiple downtown locations. "The whole purpose of the wine walk is to promote the tourism to Merrill and also get people in our small businesses," Brooks said, and she told the committee the event will include roughly 20 non-licensed establishments and 10 licensed establishments, will provide small food pairings, and will use circulating shuttle/bus stops so participants need not drive.
Brooks said participating businesses pay $50 (open to all businesses, not just chamber members), the Chamber will supply wine to non-licensed businesses after the event, and the Chamber is coordinating with a designated-driver sponsor and local hotels for stay-and-play packages. Committee members asked about advertising and a site change: 1009 East Main was removed and Shelby at 805 East Main (Cosmo Building) is being added. The committee moved, seconded and approved the temporary license by voice vote.
