Council orders inspection after flooding problems on Garfield Street

The West Middlesex Borough Council directed Streets Department Senior Laborer Bill Schwartz to obtain a cost estimate to jet and camera storm lines on Garfield Street after recent flooding disrupted the neighborhood. Council President Tim Webster opened the work session and said mapping of the sanitary/storm lines is incomplete, leaving uncertainty about where lines discharge.

"They have been very busy lately with the flooding issues on Garfield Street," Bill Schwartz reported, listing catch-basin cleanouts, sink‑hole reports near the old Shooter Supply area and temporary bridge cautioning. Joe Walsh of O'Neill Coffee told Council the business's pump "has been the same for 50 years" and said he is willing to cooperate with the Borough to resolve the problem. Council advised Schwartz to contact Seth Anthony Plumbing for a jet-and-camera quote and placed the estimate on the agenda for an upcoming Tuesday meeting for formal consideration and a vote.

The Council described a triage order for camera work: prioritize Garfield Street, then Chestnut Street, and finally the school area, where the ditch will need excavation if required. The action is procedural—the work session did not award a contract; Council expects a formal motion and vote at the next regular meeting. This will be the next step before authorizing any repairs or replacements identified by the inspection.
