County to pursue BLM wildfire‑mitigation grant as coalition subrecipient; initial phase estimate ~$409,000

A county natural‑resources representative briefed the commissioners on a Bureau of Land Management grant opportunity for wildfire‑fuels mitigation, saying the conservation district will serve as the applicant and the county would participate as a subrecipient within a multi‑partner coalition.

The presenter said coalition applications are favored by grant reviewers, that the county has prioritized projects including Dishman Hills and Isler Creek, and that proposed activities would include fuels‑mitigation planning, permitting and mechanical thinning or chipping. He told the board the application deadline was imminent and asked for approval to pursue the funding.

The county's current estimate for a Phase 1 county scope was "just over $400,000," staff said, while noting the grant maximum is $1,200,000 and that there is no match requirement. "There is no grant match," the presenter said. Commissioners responded positively and said the county should apply; staff will submit the application through the conservation‑district lead and pursue subrecipient status if awarded.
