Scott Gibson Middle School opens; district approves change order and timeline for Michael Ball Intermediate

The board received progress photos and a status update on Scott Gibson Middle School and other bond projects and unanimously approved a contract change order and time extension for the Michael Ball Intermediate project.

Construction staff shared updated interior and exterior photos for Gibson Middle School and described day‑one traffic management. Miss Wheeler reported the district is currently dismissing over 800 students and "today was 14 minutes," noting bus routing and single-stacking vehicle patterns have largely held vehicles on campus property without backing up on FM 407. Trustees praised the operations and communications teams for the transition.

Staff also reported resumed work at Michael Ball (intermediate conversion), completed slab pours and the start of steel erection; the presentation said the project team reduced an early order-of-magnitude price and requested approval of a contract-price increase and a five-month time extension to reach substantial completion next July. Construction staff asked the board to approve the change order so architects and attorneys could finalize contract language; trustees moved, seconded, and approved the increase and extension 7–0. The presentation flagged continued heavy construction activities (steel erection, crane work) and the district's plan to actively manage schedule risks.

Other bond-project updates included transportation parking south of the stadium, AMS auditorium finishes, concessions work at the baseball-softball complex and design updates for the next middle school and Canyon Falls connector hallway. Staff said some items would return for GMP or site-plan approvals in coming months.
