Board flags electrical-room and refeed uncertainties as schematic design begins

Consultants explained the difficulty of working around main electrical distribution when large sections of the school are demolished and rebuilt. "We had to pair pretty much relocate the electrical service, so all new, distribution panels and and things like that," one consultant said, describing a recent comparable project. Board members observed that copper and distribution work can be expensive and that decisions about which wings to save or replace will hinge on electrical and mechanical costs.

The team said schematic design will include close study of electrical and mechanical feeding so the board can assess tradeoffs. Staff noted the current budget assumes refeeding panels will be handled within the project but that explicit line items and estimates are not yet developed; members asked for clearer numbers as schematic design proceeds.
