Board approves TASB Policy Update 126 and consent items, including teacher-certification delay application

The Del Valle ISD Board of Trustees approved TASB Policy Update 126 and several consent items at the Jan. 20 meeting. Deputy Superintendent Dr. Mark Cantú summarized the update as incorporating mandatory legal revisions from the 89th Texas Legislative Session and related TEA rule changes to keep the district policy manual current.

Trustee Susanna Ledesma Woody moved to approve consent items B–D (Application for Delay of Teacher Certification Requirements, library materials acquisition and minutes); Vice President Melinda Cisneros seconded and the motion carried 6–0. Vice President Cisneros later moved to approve Policy Update 126 and Trustee Chante Wright-Haywood seconded; the motion carried 6–0. No additional amendments or public objections were recorded during the vote.

The Application for Delay of Teacher Certification Requirements (related to House Bill 2 and Texas Education Code 21.0032) was among the consent items; district staff noted that a board-approved compliance plan must be submitted to the commissioner by March 2, 2026 if the district elects the delay for currently uncertified foundational-subject teachers.
