MCCSC reports completed summer projects, previews 10-year facilities master plan and electric bus charging infrastructure

Administration reported a slate of summer construction and renovation projects across the district and described next steps for a 10-year facilities master plan.

Dr. Henderson summarized completed projects: the Bloomington High School North athletic and parking project (near complete), Bloomington High School South auditorium and main gym renovations (complete), and hardscape repairs and new sidewalks at several campuses. He noted the transportation site is under construction with trenching and transformer work for a solar canopy that will provide charging infrastructure for 16 electric buses; canopy construction is expected to start in October after infrastructure is in place.

Dr. Winston said the master plan will be a community-rooted, collaborative 10-year roadmap that pairs academic priorities with building assessments, capacity/utilization analysis and demographic trend data. He emphasized the projects highlighted were 100% bond-funded (no referendum, education or operations funds used) and that 91% of contractors were Indiana-based, with 72% from Bloomington. "A facilities master plan is simply not about buildings. It is about creating learning environments that allow every student to thrive," he said. The board discussed next steps for community engagement and how master-plan outcomes could inform redistricting conversations.

Administration provided a QR code and a URL (mccsc.edu/building) for more information and said more detailed master-plan engagement will begin in the coming weeks.
