Trustees approve retroactive pay for interim general manager at $5,000 per month

The Summit County Service Area #3 Board of Trustees approved retroactive compensation for Board Chair Derek Price for his service as Interim General Manager, authorizing payment at $5,000 per month backdated to March 2026. Trustee Karri Taix made the motion and Jon “Otto” Blum seconded; trustees present voted in favor (vote 4-0).

Karri Taix moved "to retroactively pay Derek back dated to March 2026 at a rate of $5,000 per month for his work as Interim GM," and Nathan Bracken, the boards legal counsel, advised the group that Derek could be treated as an employee but not as a contractor under Utah law and that board-chair compensation is permissible and would cease when a full-time general manager is hired. The board directed that the payment be discontinued once a permanent GM is on staff and indicated they would adopt a written resolution documenting the arrangement.

The vote followed the boards broader administrative review during which staff discussed hiring progress. The decision was procedural and financial in nature; the board did not adopt additional employment documents at the meeting beyond approving the retroactive payment.
