Byron public works proposes block-by-block sidewalk repairs to avoid patchwork

Public Works Director Aaron Vincer proposed assessing and grading sidewalks citywide to set priorities, then bidding blocks at a time to secure better pricing and longer runs that meet current standards rather than repeated patchwork repairs. Vincer said he preferred starting with downtown streets and working outward and asked the committee for approval to proceed with that methodology; the committee agreed.

Engineer Jason Stoll and Director Vincer noted the need to coordinate sidewalk selection with the upcoming lead-service-line work, which will require tearing up some sidewalks, and said careful planning is necessary to avoid redundant repairs. The proposed approach is intended to produce longer contiguous sidewalk segments that meet accessibility standards and deliver better long-term value for the city.
