Horry County Schools: summer capital projects largely complete, staff says

Horry County Schools staff opened the Facilities Committee meeting with a video recap of summer capital work across the district, highlighting completed HVAC, lighting, flooring, kitchen and life-safety upgrades.

Joe Prince, who presented the update, pointed to finished phases at multiple high schools and ongoing renovations at elementary schools. Prince said the district completed phases 1 through 6 at Carolina Forest High and has begun phases 7 and 8; Myrtle Beach High finished kitchen and serving-area work and installed fire sprinklers; Aynor High completed major renovations; and playground and parking work occurred at several elementary and middle schools. "So as you can see, we had a very productive summer with a lot of projects coming to completion," Prince said.

The presentation named a number of completed and ongoing items: underground wastewater-pipe replacement and wing renovations at Daisy Elementary; modular classroom setup and removal of old wooden portables at St. James Elementary; chiller and boiler replacements at St. James Middle; HVAC replacement phases at Welcome Elementary; and athletic and paving work at Socastee High, Carolina Forest High and other campuses. Staff said additional projects remain in scheduling and will occur when site access allows.

Committee members thanked staff for the work and asked no substantive follow-up; the update was presented as information rather than a matter for committee action.
