Commission continues case to Oct. 27 after finding relocation application incomplete

The City of Tampa Barrio Latino Commission on Aug. 25 continued the application to relocate a contributing frame house from its current lot to a receiving site on the same block, saying the submission lacked key documentation required by its staff report.

Ron Veil of Historic Preservation introduced case BLC26‑0000115 and reviewed Sanborn‑map evidence and plans for the move. Graham Turrell, the applicant’s agent, said the relocation is feasible and part of a broader Gas Works master development that committed to keep the contributing structure “within the district.” Veil also noted natural resources had reviewed tree protection for the receiving site.

Transportation staff raised outstanding access and parking questions: John Marsh told the commission the project “is inconsistent with 22‑314” and asked that any approval be contingent on a formal Transportation re‑review and completion of a design‑exception process for sight‑line issues. Multiple commissioners requested clearer engineering and structural evidence that the house can be moved and rehabilitated.

Public commenters urged preservation of Ybor City’s character while the board pressed the applicant for required items. Chair Rich Simmons summarized the board’s position: “My feeling is that this case is incomplete,” and the commission moved to continue the hearing to Oct. 27, 2026 to allow the applicant to supply missing reports, a final receiving‑site plan and documentation required under chapter 27 (certificate of appropriateness) and the Ybor City design guidelines.

Next steps: the applicant must provide the structural assessment, moving plans and definitive site documentation; staff recommended conditioning future consideration on verification that the relocated house can be re‑designated as contributing by the Historic Preservation Commission.
