Board approves FY 2425 consolidated budget amendments and appropriations

The Charlotte County Board of Supervisors approved staff-recommended amendments and appropriations to the consolidated FY 2425 budget after a brief public hearing and staff presentation. Whitwick explained that the largest carryforward items were previously approved in FY 24 but not expensed, and that unanticipated needs — including two clerks’ office boilers and IT security work for the sheriff’s office — required additional use of reserves.

Whitwick said, "The biggest of these was the trash truck that was delivered like 5 days after the 1st of the year," and described approximately $592,000 in carryforward funds plus roughly $93,366 needed from undesignated reserves for boilers and IT. With no members of the public signed up to speak, the board voted to approve the package after a motion was made and seconded; the chair announced the motion carried.

The amendment packet also included previously approved local matches for broadband projects and several sheriff’s department grants carried forward. Board members asked for clarification on the $93,366 drawn from reserves and on line items for IT and boilers; staff said those amounts were split across funds and would be reflected in amended appropriations. The board returned the meeting to regular session and moved on to the remainder of the agenda.
