Commissioners honor longtime communications manager Robin Thomas with resolution; memorial set for Aug. 26

The Denton County Commissioners Court on Aug. 25 adopted a resolution honoring Robin Thomas for more than 26 years of service to the county and the Denton County Sheriff's Office. The court read the resolution and commissioners and Sheriff Murphy spoke about Thomas's leadership and mentorship in communications.

Sheriff Murphy, speaking at the podium, thanked the family and colleagues and invited the public to the memorial: "Robin meant so much to us and she was a consummate professional who did an amazing job in a very difficult area." The court said the memorial will be held Aug. 26 at 12:00 PM at Denton Bible Church, 2300 East University Drive, with a flyover at 11:30 AM.

The resolution, presented in open court, details Thomas's career timeline: starting at the juvenile detention center on Sept. 8, 1999, joining the sheriff's office, serving in communications roles beginning in 2003, earning advanced telecommunicator and instructor certifications, and advancing to communications manager in 2023. Commissioners repeatedly emphasized her mentorship of new dispatch staff and the ongoing impact of the training she provided.

The court approved the resolution by voice vote; the judge and several commissioners praised Thomas's dedication to public safety and her role in preserving life and property through emergency communications. No formal dissent was recorded.
