Committee advances Senior Solutions proposal for John Street site to full council

Senior Solutions representative Mister Wright presented a feasibility overview for converting the John Street building into a congregate senior center, describing program demand, accessibility work and rough operating projections. Wright said the site currently attracts about 50–60 enrolled seniors with 25–30 attending on a typical day and described necessary renovations including accessibility ramps, electrical and HVAC repairs and basement remediation. "There's about, 50 or 60 people that that come there," Wright said when asked for scale of participation.

Wright said Senior Solutions expects to operate the center at an annual deficit in the neighborhood of $33,000 and asked the city to assist with constructing a road from Main Street to the back parking area, removing two large trees that interfere with the building, and providing limited maintenance support. After committee discussion about fire and building code compliance, tree removal liability and parking needs, a motion was made and seconded to forward the proposal to the full council; the committee approved the motion unanimously.
