Council hears plan and phasing for Spaghetti Flats colonia engineering task order

Council reviewed a task order for engineering, design and surveying services for the Spaghetti Flats colonia improvement project (CIF698). A presenter described the work as covering design and construction-phase engineering and said the contract would cover the full time the firm works on Spaghetti Flats.

The presenter said the project likely will be bid out in a couple months and estimated the work would not finish before March or April of the following year, adding that the project will be phased starting at the north side to avoid designing work in areas likely to be bought out. The presenter said pre-construction safety meetings with the contractor will take place to protect workers and the public. Councilors asked about easements, possible costs for acquiring them and whether storm-drain installation could increase project cost; staff said easement acquisition and unknown drainage work create uncertainty and could increase the final project expense.
