Operators ask for stakeholder workshop as commission introduces tighter vacation‑rental enforcement

The commission introduced on first reading an ordinance that would revise the city's vacation‑rental rules to clarify enforcement authority, change certificate‑of‑compliance suspension and penalty provisions, establish inspection access requirements and preserve enforcement after ownership changes.

A vacation‑rental operator urged the commission to pause and hold a stakeholder workshop, saying operators were excluded from earlier meetings that helped shape the draft. "Really, what I'm asking for tonight, you guys, is can we please have a stakeholder workshop? Can everybody come to the table and talk?" the operator said, asking for broader engagement before final action.

Portia, a city staff member who worked on outreach, replied that staff had notified operators through Numo, the city's operator identification system, and said she had met individually with the operator and followed up in writing. "We did notify all operators of the amendment through Numo, which is the system that regulates or or identifies any of the operators that are advertising," Portia said.

The ordinance was introduced on first reading; commissioners noted the matter returns for a second reading, and staff invited further operator input between readings.
