Select Board to draft public‑area security‑camera policy emphasizing local storage

Select Person Sean DeBettencourt told the board he will work with Town Administrator Wendy Brough on a future draft of a security-camera policy to permit installation of cameras in public areas. He emphasized privacy and data control, saying he would like to "ensure that the data is locally stored, not shared with entities besides the Oak Bluffs Police Department and Town of Oak Bluffs." The board did not adopt the policy at the meeting but directed staff to return with proposed language at a later date.

DeBettencourt clarified these would not be FLOCK cameras and that the stated goal is public safety; he asked that the draft address storage location, access control, and rules for interagency sharing. The board signaled support for further work and scheduled the item for a future meeting agenda.
