Board approves targeted administrator raises and the compliance coordinator after executive session

After returning from executive session, the Cherokee County School Board took several definitive personnel and budget actions.

A trustee moved and the board unanimously approved a three-month extension to the superintendent’s contract period to allow additional time for relocation to Cherokee County; the rental portion of prior compensation was removed effective June 30. The board then adopted an amended salary plan: "All employees will receive a 3% raise, except principals and assistant principals who will receive 4%," the motion-maker said during the post-executive-session motion. The board also limited the administration’s hiring authorization by approving only one of the three deliberation positions — the compliance coordinator in student services — while deferring the director of finance and director of community & employee relations roles for later consideration.

Board members recorded their approvals as unanimous for both the relocation extension and the salary scenario and indicated the compliance coordinator position would be added to the final budget in the next reading. Administration will update the budget documents to reflect the changes and proceed with appropriate job descriptions and hiring steps.
