Meridian board hears plan for Early Learning Center to serve birth–5 children

District staff presented the vision for a Meridian Early Learning Center designed to serve roughly 80–120 children from birth through age 5 and to offer extended hours to support working families. The presenter said the district has compiled grant award letters and other funding documents in the board packet and that the design work involved Dykeman (architecture), Opportunity Council, YMCA and Meridian School District staff. "The vision is to, have an early learning center, which will provide childcare for 80 to a 120 children, birth to 5," the presenter said.

The staff presentation listed total grant-funded award letters in the board packet as $12,257,000 and noted a county funding item in the packet that is pending approval (the packet text contains a numeric string that is unclear in the transcript). Board members pressed on project timing and risks; staff gave a tentative sequence that would place major design work through summer/fall 2027 and a construction start in spring 2028 if the board authorized moving forward.
