Castleberry librarians launch Beanstack superintendent challenge to log 2,000 minutes per student

District lead librarian Diana Coby presented a district and community reading initiative that uses Beanstack to track student reading minutes and motivate participation. The superintendent challenge asks students to read 2,000 minutes in the program year (an average of 15 minutes per day or 300 minutes per month) with campus-level goals and monthly incentives managed by librarians. Coby said the district's goal is 1,000,000 minutes and described planned celebrations, a traveling trophy and monthly reporting at ALT meetings.

Coby emphasized that Beanstack allows minutes to roll over across challenges and that librarians will provide visual trackers for campuses to show progress. She reported early uptake at some campuses and invited board members to participate; one board member volunteered to log minutes. "We're asking students this year to read 2,000 minutes," Coby said, and staff noted the program will include parent communications and kickoff events.
