Teacher urges separation of DAP program from College View High School

Richard Connor, an English teacher at College View High School and a facilitator for the Accelerated Academy program, urged trustees to physically separate the district alternative placement (DAP/DAEP) campus from College View High School to give each program a clearer mission and identity. "Separating College View and DAP would allow each campus to establish a distinct mission, culture, and public identity," he said, adding that separation would reduce confusion for families and improve recruitment for College View’s early-college model.

Connor told the board a separate DAP campus would allow dedicated leadership and more intentional supports for students with behavioral and academic interventions, improving transitions and reentry to home campuses. "A separate DAP campus could build its systems, staffing, interventions, and culture specifically around student behavior, academic continuity, successful transitions, and reentry to their home campuses," he said. Trustees acknowledged the point and said they would consider how facilities and bond projects could support those aims as they finalize central-office and campus plans.
