Gage County schedules Sept. 2 hearing on proposed 18‑month data‑center moratorium

The Gage County Board of Supervisors on Aug. 19 scheduled a public hearing for Sept. 2 to consider a recommended 18‑month moratorium on data‑center development in the county. Chair (speaker 1) told the public the hearing will begin around 4:00 p.m. and that the board will limit remarks to two minutes per person, reserving the right to ask follow‑up questions of speakers who provide new information.

Staff and planning representatives told the board they will distribute informational materials and asked the public to arrive early. One staff member (speaker 10) noted the county already has an eight‑month moratorium in place and that the planning process includes peer review of developer hydrologic studies. "That that'll be specifically a public hearing, to hear support or opposition, for an 18 month moratorium to data centers in Gage County," the Chair said. "We already have an 8 month in place now," planning staff added during the meeting. The board said it would provide procedural instructions at the hearing and allow brief duplicative comments to be registered as simple agreement to conserve time.
