Commission considers adding explicit ‘no camping’ language to parks rules

Members reviewed the draft rules-and-regulations packet and raised three substantive edits: add an explicit prohibition on camping in parks and open spaces, clarify pet restrictions around athletic fields, and set a numeric cancellation window for tournaments.

Commissioner Elizabeth recommended inserting language that restates the municipal code plainly in the parks document because readers often consult the rules packet rather than the town code: "there's no camping permitted on these spaces," she said, and suggested citing the ordinance. Commissioners also discussed whether the clause banning pets at "certain parks that support sports activities" should instead be limited to playing fields and spectator areas to avoid unduly restricting general park use. Staff and commissioners agreed to clarify the language and to return a revised draft at the next meeting for a final vote.
