Board approves seed transfer to capital projects fund to address urgent repairs

The board discussed and approved a resolution authorizing a seed transfer to the capital projects fund to address deferred maintenance and emergency facility needs.

Daniel Nord, the district’s business finance director, described the approach: drawing a one-time transfer to seed the capital projects fund so the district can pursue grant matches and tackle top-priority repairs. He listed estimated project costs including a long-standing high-school HVAC replacement (quoted in discussion at roughly $1,063,000), a parts-center roof (~$500,000), irrigation/field repairs (~$125,000) and emergency classroom repairs approaching $100,000. Nord said the capital projects fund unearmarked balance had dropped to about $275,000 and that approving a $900,000 transfer would provide seed money to apply for grants and start work.

Board members requested a public priority list so the community can see where funds will go, and discussed emergency-grant procedures through OSPI and the emergency-declaration process that can speed repairs without protracted bid timelines. A motion to approve the resolution was moved, seconded and adopted by voice vote.
