Meridian board approves 2026–27 school improvement plans, emphasizes family communication and student self-efficacy

The Meridian School District Board of Directors approved the districtwide 2026–27 school improvement plans at its Aug. 19 meeting.

District staff said the plans largely continue existing priorities while adding more family-facing communication about student progress and an emphasis on student self-efficacy. “The first step of that plan was a needs assessment,” said a district instructional lead explaining how goals were set from building- and district-level data. Staff described district goals for English language arts and math that target a roughly 3–5% improvement for certain student groups, including multilingual learners and students with disabilities.

Board members and parents questioned how the district will track progress and improve attendance, which has climbed since the pandemic but remains below pre-pandemic levels. Administrators said the district will use common formative assessments and professional learning teams to monitor instruction frequently rather than relying only on annual statewide tests. A motion to approve the plans was moved, seconded and adopted by voice vote.
