Superintendent highlights AP results, Rawson Ave safety work and NASA classroom research acceptance

Superintendent Roemer presented several district updates at the July 30 meeting. She reported that AP Research students posted a 100% pass rate, AP Literature had an 86% pass rate and Calculus BC had a 77% pass rate (92% when the AB subscore is included). Roemer thanked teachers Ms. Swanson, Mr. Backes and Mr. Oeschlager for their work with students.

Roemer also briefed the board on safety and facilities: the City of South Milwaukee, using a traffic study from the district and its own review of Rawson Ave, has removed the stoplight at 14th Ave and Rawson Ave and is installing concrete bumpouts at crosswalks and a flashing-light crosswalk in front of the school; work is expected to be complete before the start of school. In academic programming, middle school STEM teacher Ms. Mendiola was accepted into the 2025–26 Growing Beyond Earth® (GBE) Program, a classroom initiative developed with NASA; she will lead NASA-aligned research trials across the fall and spring semesters. Roemer also announced the high school and district office will be closed Aug. 6–8 for air-handling maintenance.
