Hamlin board considers smoking and vaping ban on town property

The board introduced Introductory Local Law No. 4-2026, a proposal to add chapter 507 to Hamlin's code to regulate smoking and vaping on town property. One commenter observed that police and special officers are unlikely to prioritize vaping complaints during more urgent calls: "I mean, they're not gonna enforce it," one attendee said, noting the practical limits of enforcement. Board members suggested that posted signage and targeted warnings at parks and playgrounds could reduce incidents even if routine enforcement is difficult.

Board members said they would refine definitions (including explicit reference to tobacco and cannabis products) and coordinate outreach — one member said they would contact American Heart Association contacts to discuss education and signage. No adoption vote was recorded; the item was moved forward for further refinement.
