Board approves Children's Services Act supplemental appropriation with local match

James Howard, director of Greene County Department of Social Services, presented the annual supplemental appropriation for the Children's Services Act and outlined program spending trends. Howard told the board the resolution before them appropriated funds to cover state and local costs for child‑serving services; he said expenditures have risen sharply this year, driven by increases in foster‑care and residential placements.

Howard told the board that roughly $248,000 of the requested appropriation is local dollars — the 34.71% match rate Greene County typically provides — and the board moved, seconded and approved the appropriation on a roll‑call vote. Howard said the county will continue to monitor placement trends and work to reduce residential placements where appropriate.
