VDOT gives Greene County quarterly update; bridge projects and rural‑rustic funding highlighted

Matt Shadi, assistant resident engineer for the Charlottesville residency, presented VDOT’s quarterly update and listed ongoing and upcoming projects: preliminary work on the Goose Pond Road bridge over Swift Run with an expected completion in fall 2028, a preliminary field inspection and an October public hearing for Beasley Road over Blue Run, and an active bridge replacement on Bacon Hollow Road with a detour in place. Shadi also said funding was approved for rural‑rustic work on Middle River Road and Entry Run Road and summarized recent maintenance activities (dust control, grading, ditch work).

Board members raised local safety concerns, reporting recurring guardrail failures and wash‑outs in some corridors. Shadi said a five‑year crash history review did not justify guardrails at one studied location but agreed to follow up on hot spots and ongoing maintenance priorities. Supervisors also discussed resident petitions about paving projects and asked staff to coordinate constituent feedback on whether to proceed with paving in specific neighborhoods.
