Board approves veteran‑service appointment, adds CSLIP depository and renews secure‑transport permits

At its Aug. 25 meeting the Fremont County Board of County Commissioners took several administrative actions: it adopted Resolution No. 20 appointing John Grooms as Veteran Service Officer for a two‑year term beginning Aug. 30, 2026; adopted Resolution No. 21 adding the Centennial State Liquid Investment Pool (CSLIP) to the county’s list of authorized depositories; approved two type‑1 secure transportation vehicle permits for behavioral‑health transport providers; and reappointed Ed Norton to the Fremont County Board of Zoning Adjustment.

John Grooms summarized recent changes to the VSO office: “We have modernized the office. We are mobile. As a matter of fact, we can go out to different locations. We can go visit vets in their homes.” Commissioners praised the office’s outreach and noted the county receives substantial federal benefits to veterans. The board confirmed the appointment by resolution and recorded a unanimous roll call vote.

County Attorney Eric Bellas explained the Centennial State Liquid Investment Pool is a liquid public‑fund investment pool with a lower percentage of commercial paper than some alternatives and historically competitive returns. Bellas described CSLIP as holding less than 50% in commercial paper and providing liquidity comparable to the Colorado Surplus Asset Fund Trust (CSAFE). The board approved adding CSLIP to the county’s official depositories on the treasurer’s recommendation.

The board also approved two one‑year secure transportation vehicle permits, for Air Ride Colorado LLC (2017 Ford Explorer) and Super Transit LLC (2015 Ford Explorer), effective Aug. 25, 2026 through Aug. 24, 2027; motions included the specific start and end dates. Finally, the board reappointed Ed Norton to the Board of Zoning Adjustment with a term expiring Feb. 28, 2029 and encouraged residents to consider volunteer service on county boards.
