Select Board declines citizen request for investigation into decisions around Halsted/Market Basket area

A group of citizens requested that the Select Board investigate decision-making relating to the area near Halsted and the Market Basket shopping area. The chair presented the correspondence and invited discussion.

Board member David argued the matter had been handled through prior public meetings and that the town's communications were with the property owner/developer rather than individual businesses: “ I don't think there's any need to do any investigation. I think it was addressed when when this project is being formed or being, developed, it was all of those places are were condoized. And so it was owned by 1 corporation, namely, the developer… So and this gentleman seems to think that we didn't notify Halsted about certain things and about certain concerns. We weren't in any communication with them because they weren't the property. ”

Other board members agreed and noted that much of the project's review is a matter of public record through past meetings and mitigation plans; the board declined to open a new investigation and instead noted where existing records could be consulted. The historical commission letter was also acknowledged for future consideration.
