County tax office may remain on current system amid Harris.gov training complaints

The budget packet includes a $24,000 annual line for the tax office to operate dual systems while it transitions from its current software, the presenter said. "The timing of payment is monthly is $24,000 annually. It's for services and licensing for the use of that program for that year," Mr. Niffenegger said when explaining the line item.

The Chair reported that staff at the tax office have been unhappy with Harris.gov training: "I think their training, they're very unhappy with it, and we've not made the switch over." Meeting discussion noted that staff had raised specific functionality concerns and that an advisor, Bob Cole, had reviewed the contract and advised that the office could send a letter if it wished to withdraw from the vendor agreement.

No formal decision to switch or stay was made in the meeting; Mr. Niffenegger said he had not been deeply involved with the tax-office transition beyond initial presentations and that the tax office could choose to remain on its current system without the county forcing a change.
