County engineer seeks radio upgrades, reports bridge work and equipment transfer requests

An engineer representing the county engineering office updated the board on ongoing infrastructure and communications work, saying the county's "two way system has been problematic for a lot of years" and that the office has secured radios and spares that could be used to outfit county equipment and townships.

He described construction activity including a bridge under construction on Sanford Road and contract work on Dyer Road, and said the office had obtained reimbursement support and a check release for prior costs. The engineer requested the board consider transfer requests to move equipment and contingency funds between departments, citing a larger transfer of about $78,000 and a smaller transfer of about $11,000 and noting that the gas tax fund does not register for equipment contingency.

The engineer also proposed coordinating radio testing through the 911 coordinator and indicated potential cost savings by using 911‑managed equipment for joint testing and interoperability. The board heard the briefing and was told staff would return with details and a formal transfer request.
