Delhi Township Board Explains New Electric Aggregation Rate After Resident Complaints

Administrator Miller told the board the township's electric aggregation bid was awarded to Dinergy at a rate of 10.39¢ per kilowatt‑hour beginning in June under a 17‑month contract. He said the decision aims to hold rates close to or below the Duke Energy default supply rate and that the shorter term was selected to reduce cost risk.

Miller addressed resident complaints about unsolicited mailings from third‑party firms that appear to reference the township's aggregation. "They are not part of our energy aggregation program," he said of firms soliciting door‑to‑door; those firms may have a solicitation permit but are not township‑endorsed. He reiterated that the aggregation program is an opt‑out model and that, under the program rules the township uses, suppliers may not impose an opt‑out termination fee: "If you opt out at any time, there's a $0 penalty," Miller said. Residents having trouble opting out were advised to call the township or the Energy Alliances consultant for assistance and to consult the township energy‑aggregation web page for details.

Trustees fielded questions about perceived enrollment without permission and about comparisons with other supplier offers that include termination fees; Miller responded that the township does not profit from the program and that the program was authorized by voter approval at the ballot. He encouraged residents to contact administration for direct assistance if notices or solicitations are confusing.
