Nonprofits pool funds with Black Hawk County to stretch crisis aid

A staff member said the General Assistance Program partners closely with local nonprofits and ministerial groups to combine resources so clients do not have to run from agency to agency. “Lots of times, Eastside Ministerial Alliance, Chesse Cosby, and Operation Threshold have funds of their own or from different entities that they can pool with our money so the client doesn't have to run here, there, and everywhere,” the staff member said.

Program staff described the pooling arrangement as a practical way to remove barriers: partner organizations can contribute funding or connect clients to other supports, and county staff coordinate referrals and information-sharing to make assistance more efficient. The staff member urged partners and residents to use the coordinated network when seeking help.
